THE BUS TITLE: THE BUS (POME) CHARACTER: AUTHOR AND THE TRAVELER AUTHOR: ARUN KOLATKAR ABOUT: The bus, by Arun Kolatkar is a story about the author's traveling experience .This pome was published in 1976 ,The Bus belong to the collection of poem titled jejuri , the jejuri collection contains thirty one pomes each pome talks about the different aspects of the place called jejuri in Maharashtra. structure and form of the bus: The bus poem contains 25 lines and the author use the free verse method .The author doesn't add any special rhyme scheme .This is a simple story about a journey to jejuri . the author well about both inside and outside of the bus in the well depicted image . In this poem the writer takes the readers on a journey to jejuri. Analysis of the bus: first five lines: The poem begins with the description of the bus .The first five lines of the poem says instead of glasses the bus windows was covered with tarpaulin flaps .As the bus moves forward ,the cold breeze blows heavely on the tarpaulin and tries to move it. Its constant attempt is described as “whipping” and “slapping”, especially of the human attributes of anger etc. The wind blowing on the tarpaulin, ‘at your elbow” presents the speaker/poet as an observer .The uses of verbs like whipping” and “slapping are used to give a personification to the wind. five to ten lines : As the journey moves forward ,the poet talks about the nature ouside the bus . The quest for daybreak singnals the fellow traveler's impatience for the journey's conclusion or a fervent anticipation of reaching "jejuri".Despite the traveler's best efforts, the scenes unfolding before them merely reflect the fragmented self mirrored in the spectacles adorning an elderly man's nose. eleven to sixteen lines : the next 11 to 16 lines saya that, It seems like you're constantly moving ahead ,heading towards a place just out of reach, beyond what the old man can see with his marked brow. Outside, the sun has risen silently ,shining through a hole in the tarpaulin, and it's targeting the oldman's glasses. seventeen to twenty one lines: the lines talks about a chopped-off sunbeam softly lands on the driver's right temples, making the bus appear to alter its course. After a jolting journey with your reflection on both sides, when you leave the bus, you don't enter the old man's thoughts.
